About

Yen Thi Hai NGUYEN joined the Vienna Institute of Demography in September 2022. She is a member of the BIRTHLIFE project team. Her current research focuses on fertility desire and actual fertility in South East Asia in the context of gender bias.

She received a master’s degree and a doctorate in Demography from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, with a dissertation on fertility, gender bias and women's education. She also earned a master’s degree in Sociology on migration in 2008. Dr. Yen used to be a lecturer, researcher and consultant at Universities, NGOs and ADB bank in Vietnam and Thailand for several years.
