Moreover, he leads the Research Unit 'Population Economics' at the Vienna Institute of Demography of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is a graduate in mathematics and physics of the University of Vienna. His habilitation in statistics and demography is from the University of Bonn. His current research activities are concerned with applications of optimal control and dynamic games in economics. He is particularly interested in nonlinear dynamical systems arising in population dynamics and economics.
